A huge congratulations to the authors of these stories. Almost all of the entries we received were unique, soulful, and brilliant pieces of work. But the judges felt that the above entries showed a special creative flare and a masterful use of the written language.
The judges also commented on the difficulty of selecting the long list with such a fantastic range of talent to choose from. And they'd like to remind every author who did not make the list to remember that it is no negative comment on his or her piece. They wish the greatest success to every writer who entered.
Also an important note on the announcement of the shortlist/winner:
Despite a high number of entries this turn of the competition, we decided not to fall back on the 'sifting' of entries, as we believe that every entry should be read start to finish by the judges if possible. This is the reason of the slightly delayed long list.
We also feel that there is not enough time for the judges to make a valued decision on the shortlist, and overall winner of the competition with the time left (currently the winner is due to be announced on the 1st of November). So we have decided to rearrange the schedule as follows:
Shortlist will be published 1st November
Winner announced 5th November
We hope the longlistees will understand the importance of giving the judges more time, and we apologise for the change of plan.
The best of luck for everyone on the longlist for the next stage of the competition!
